Area Police
Approximately fifty automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police say they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then located multiple other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials state initial examinations show the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; authorities are not yet aware of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities announced they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the community for details.
An important political figure commented the incident left him speechless and had to be solved quickly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, referring to the death of nine victims by a shooter focusing on people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
